Central Washington Water started in 1957 when founder Bob Salmon saw a need in the community for a product that would contribute to the overall health of the home and family. He began by selling high quality Lindsay (now called EcoWater®) water softeners door to door. Water softeners became very popular during this time as Bob spread the word about all they can do. Some of his first customers still purchase their water treatment products here. In 1975 his son, Mike Salmon, joined the business. Today Mike still proudly offers the same brand of high quality water treatment systems.

Which unit will work for me?
Choosing a unit for your home depends on a variety of factors, including how hard your water is, the number of people living in your home, the size of plumbing, and your budget. Our customers whose source water is chlorinated and moderately hard may opt for a water refiner, which not only softens the water but also removes chlorine taste and odor. Customers on a well may need a high-capacity softener and require an extra iron filter. How do I know if I need a water softener?
Softeners filter out calcium hardness, iron, and magnesium through ionic exchange. Each of these three minerals produces different symptoms in your home water supply. The most common of these is calcium hardness. Water in the Wenatchee Valley generally contains 4-8 grains of hardness, which is considered "moderately hard water" by the U.S. Department of Interior Standards*. Most wells in our area contain at least 10 grains of calcium hardness - "very hard". Hard water symptoms include spots or scratches on dishes; white scale build up on faucets; flaky/milky ice cubes; dry skin and hair; stiff and discolored laundry; and the need to use extra soap to clean effectively. Even more concerning are the effects hard water has on your plumbing, dishwasher, washing machine, and hot water tank. Over time calcium hardness builds up inside these appliances and can cause a number of issues.**
If your water has iron in it you might see orange stains in your toilet and shower. White clothing often discolors. Iron can also build up in pipes and cause problems.

What if I don't have any symptoms of hard water?
Your water might be in the "slightly hard" range, or you have become accustomed to hard water. On very rare occassions we do find water in the area with minimal calcium hardness, usually from a well very near a creek or small river. The only way to tell for sure is to test the water. Bring in a sample for a free water analysis to determine the level of hardness and we can help you determine if a water softener is a good choice for your home.
